Life presents us all with unexpected challenges. Sometimes we need help facing them. We often need a mirror to help us understand how to change outdated behaviors or patterns that are just not working. I have recovered well from a lot of trauma in early life. I feel that experience, along with my good training, helps me face the real depth of suffering many clients endure. We are more than our pain, however, and possess a capacity for profound joy and fulfillment. So, exploring life beyond it’s apparent limits is as important as facing the dark together.
I trained in Humanistic/Existentialist therapy (Sonoma State and private) Jungian and other Depth psychologies (Pacifica) and Liberation Psychology through research and practice. I believe psychotherapy should do more than help us adapt to a dysfunctional world. It should also help free us of the ties that bind us.
My work is personal, compassionate and direct. Our time together is brief so I try to utilize it well. Although I am a psychology professor, I do not work from a single theoretical frame. I stay close to my client’s real experience, without judgment, toward real possible change.
